Indie Traveller is a 100% AI-free site, as I believe only human-written expert guides can be of genuine use to other travellers. My aim is quality over quantity, with content written by travellers for travellers. 

Relevant topics

My personal rule is that I need to have travelled in a country myself before I can be a good editor for this destination. You can take a look at my Destinations menu to see which countries I focus on. 

My current areas of focus are Southeast Asia, Latin America, plus several countries in Europe, mainly in the Balkans. 

Indie Traveller is aimed at all types of adventure travellers and nomads, usually (but not always) on a budget. 

If you’re a local/resident in the region or you’re a long-term traveller who spends longer in places than the typical tourist, then this is a big plus. 

I usually let writers suggest topics to me based on their travel experiences, so that your own knowledge and motivation can determine the best topics to write about.

If we like working together, then there is potential to be a regular contributor.

Writing style

You must be able to write practical, user-friendly articles. I don’t worry too much about Search Engine Optimization, however I do place great importance on ‘optimizing for humans’. For example, dense paragraphs tend to be skipped by online readers, so it’s essential to keep things crispy and easy to scan. If a guide is very helpful, I believe this eventually gets reflected in search engine metrics.

Articles should, first and foremost, help a fellow traveller discover a new place. However, adding some of your subjective experiences or anecdotes can help make a travel guide more engaging and inspirational. 

Ideally, you should already have writing experience. If so, please mention your past work, your own blog, or your writing portfolio.

My standard rate is $0.07 per word. Payment is always timely.
