Hi Pilar, I wrote this post 7 years ago, and I would definitely write it very differently today! You must have felt this post is an ‘attack’, but it was honestly not meant that way. I adore the Philippines and its culture, and I had some really fun times in Manila and would happily return.

What I wrote here was done in quite a raw and subjective style after spending several days in Manila (more a quick story than a travel guide), so it’s really about how I saw some things on the surface, not about what it’s like to live there or the deeper aspects of it. But I apologize as it doesn’t strike the right tone.

I don’t think blogs need to be 100% positive or promotional all the time (that would make them boring), but they do really need to be balanced and thoughtful. So when I return to Manila, I promise I’ll do a much better story on it.

You just did not research deeper to see what the country can offer. Since it was not your intention to be there, why include it in your list and make a negative review title? You just brought down the Tourism Industry. The Title page of Manila-not-a-thrill is very negative I must say. You wouldn’t want that done to your own country, right? As a travel blogger, you should see the positive side of the country not the negative. You should be able to know the kind of culture the Filipino people have as it is a mixture of Spanish, American, and Malay. ( read the history) I have been to other countries that have a bad side of it, but never I bad mouth those countries, but instead, I read about it and learned their wonderful culture. It is not the negative side that you should emphasize, but you should look deeper and know what the country can offer. That is what a Travel Blogger should do like yourself. Your title page and content regarding this country is so demeaning. You belittled the country and its people. There should be no comparison with other nations. That is not what we do as travelers. I like some of your content, but this one is below the belt.
